Support GBCS

Fundraising

The need for fundraising is an unfortunate reality for New Hampshire Charter Schools and Great Bay Charter School is no exception.  With the current funding structure for New Hampshire Charter Schools, we must raise about 35% the annual per pupil cost for each GBCS student.

While each member of our school community is asked and expected to assist in this effort, we have adopted the philosophy that students have a job to do as students for multiple fundraising events.  Thoughtful, deliberate fundraising efforts with responsibilities that are shared by the greater community allow us to minimize the impact on students.

Family Pledge/Donation

As a public charter school in New Hampshire, GBCS cannot charge tuition, nor can we expect additional local tax dollars in support of our program. With strict budgeting and overall spending frugality, our typical annual per pupil cost at GBCS is approximately $11,000-12,000 compared with other local districts that which may well exceed $15,000, $16,000, or even $17,000 per student.

Our primary revenue source, Adequacy Aid funding from the State of New Hampshire, is $9,000.00 per student for this year leaving us with an anticipated differential of approximately $2,000-$3,000 per student to be raised by the school if our cost per pupil remained the same. This amount is needed just to cover our budgeted expenses and does not allow us to grow our programs or add to our technology, supply, or equipment inventory.

We ask each family to help us by making a one-time financial donation for the school year. Our goal for 2023-2024 will be $100,000 through family donations—an average gift of just under $1,000 per GBCS family.   Several families were able to donate amounts well over $1,000 last year and we truly appreciate their tax-deductible gifts! We are more than happy to receive donations in installments if necessary.

Plain and simple this is the school’s request of each family for a financial contribution of as much as they can afford to give.  A suggested tax deductible donation of $1,000 per GBCS family each year would completely erase our annual funding differential!  Many families give what they are able to give and we certainly appreciate that.

Scrip Program

This program allows families to help GBCS by donating money by spending no more than they would spend under regular circumstances.  By using retail gift cards purchased through our school, you can purchase your items at your favorite stores spending no more than you would ordinarily spend, and GBCS benefits directly from the sale.

Depending on the retailer we receive from 3% to 17% of the amount of each gift card sold.  The retailers are nationally recognized and represent all aspects of consumer products and services.  Buying gift cards for family and friends for the holidays?  Please purchase them through GBCS and support our school.  More information can be found by clicking here.
